Thirsty Thursdays: Trust and Obey

Ever want God to work something out in your life? Did you expect this huge ordeal to take place, moving of mountains parting of the sea etc.? Many times God performs miracles in our lives and they go unnoticed or we feel in order for it to be done something extravagant has to occur. In actuality it doesn’t take much to perform a miracle in your life, faith and obedience will go a long way.

Naaman was a general of the army of the king of Aram. He was a great soldier, who happened to have leprosy. Leprosy is a contagious skin disease caused by a bacteria that causes skin sores, nerve damage, muscle weakness, discoloration and gets worse over time. Naaman went to Israel to get healed after hearing about a prophet (Elisha) who would be able to cure him. When he arrived, Elisha told him to go wash in the Jordan seven times and his skin will be restored. “11 But Naaman went away angry and said, I thought that he would surely come out to me and stand and call on the name of the Lord his God, wave his hand over the spot and cure me of my leprosy…So he turned and went off in a rage.” 2 Kings 5:11-12.

It being something so simple made Naaman angry. He was expecting more of a spectacle.  Luckily for Naaman his servant was more understanding and was able to get him to believe and obey. “13…If the prophet had told you to do some great thing, would you not have done it? How much more, then, when he tells you ‘wash and be cleansed’! 14. So he went down and dipped himself in the Jordan seven times, as the man of God had told him, and his flesh was restored and became clean like that of a young boy”. TRUSTING that God would cure him if he OBEYED, Naaman went in the Jordan and washed seven times and was cured of leprosy.

Lets not complicate things or miss out on blessings by placing certain expectations and assumptions on HOW God will work things out in our lives. If it isn’t going how we think it should or how we planned or imagined it would in our minds don't get upset or frustrated and turn away. We will never be able to completely understand or predict how God will work it out because it is beyond our capabilities to make such things happen. God can open doors no man can open and provide a way out of no way. Through him the impossible is possible. It may be through the parting of the red sea or something simpler like dipping in water seven times. Just be obedient, listen to his voice, follow his directions and BELIEVE in faith KNOWING that he WILL work it out.
