Thirsty Thursday: Love one another

“7 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God...8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love” 1 John 4:7-8. Love is a very powerful word. It encompasses many different things. It is one of the most essential commandments given; yet you take a look around and it isn’t hard to see believers not really loving each other, as we should. As stated in yesterday’s wonderful post, according to urban dictionary a hater is a person who simply cannot be happy for another person’s success. For no good reason they don’t like a person, or always have something to say about someone, pointing out any and every flaw a person has. So instead of coming together, one body of Christ, with a common goal and purpose of furthering the kingdom, there are rifts and dissension.

We are called to love one another. We strive to be Christ like and to do God’s will. Well God is love and he showed us his love by performing the ultimate sacrifice. “9…He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.” We are all children of God, we should support and encourage one another. Don’t hate on someone else because they are doing well or for any other petty reason that may arise. Instead be proud of their achievements and success. Do not be bitter or hold a grudge, forgive as God has forgiven us for our sins. Lets work on building each other up instead of tearing each other down. We need to put aside the differences and come together for the greater good.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8 does a wonderful job painting a picture of what love is. “4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trust, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails…”
