THIRSTY THURSDAYS: ALLOWING GOD TO LEAD YOU

Many times in life we encounter situations in which we are not sure what will happen. We muster up a variety of outcomes, sometimes creating unnecessary stress and anxiety. When we bring our cares and concerns to God through prayer, we should be assured, knowing that he will be with us and what he says will be. He won’t ever give you more than you can handle nor will he ever leave you or forsake you.

In today's reading, we see that Abraham sends one of his servants to find a wife for his son Isaac. He asks him not to go to the land of the Canaanites to find her, but to his country Haran. Initially, his servant is concerned, thinking what if the woman is not willing to come back with him. He began to wonder what he should do if this situation were to arise. Abraham trusted in God and believed his promise. He was able to respond to Eliezer (his servant) by saying “The Lord, the God of heaven who brought me out of my father’s household and my native land and who spoke to me and promised me on oath, saying ‘To your offspring I will give this land’- he will send his angel before you so that you can get a wife for my son from there” GENESIS 24:7.

Eliezer went on his way taking ten of Abraham's camels stocked with various goods. When he got to the town of Nahor the feeling of anxiety began to return, his mission to find a wife for Isaac seemed like finding a needle in a haystack. He prayed to God saying “12 Lord, God of my master Abraham, make me successful today and show kindness to my master Abraham. 13 I am standing beside this spring, and the daughters of the townspeople are coming out to draw water. 14 May it be that when I say to a young woman, ‘Please let down your jar that I may have a drink’, and she says ‘Drink, and ill water your camels too’- let her be the one you have chosen for your servant Isaac…” GENESIS 24:12-14. Before he could finish praying, God provided a response to his request. Isn’t God AMAZING!!! Talk about speedy service.

Like Abraham, we should strive to be confident in the Lord. In times when anxiety or stress creeps up we shouldn’t hesitate to begin praying to God voicing our fears, cares and concerns. We should ask him to help us deal with difficult situations and to help us make the right choices. Our God is an Awesome God, he will be there to fulfill our needs, comfort us, lead us, and allow us to succeed.  Follow his lead, he wont let you down.

  2. Ron this was a great message. It is something I need to start applying more often to my life. At times I tend to be an overly anxious person and I need to remember to call on the mighty name of The Lord in such times. He will give me an answer and calm my anxieties just as he did for Eliezer.

  3. Excellent reminder about God's faithful promises to us. He will not let us down - we just have to trust.

  4. Amen!!! A great reminder that I need to stop complaining and start asking God for what I need. I know I need to ask God to provide instead of dreading in my situation. Or just like the theme for this year: faith in action!!!
