God is our heavenly Father. Right?—Yes!...If you didn’t know, now you know =). So, like a father he teaches us things “…one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray…And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil” (Luke 11:1-4).
He also gives us gifts when we ask for it, “…And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened” (Luke 11:9-10). For instance, the gift of the Holy Spirit which is his spirit living inside us. Jesus states in Luke chapter 11 verse 13 “If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?”
He also protects and favors us. The Lord protected Lot and his family from being destroyed with the other citizens of Sodom and Gommorah. This is due to the fact that Abraham asked the Lord to spare the city for the sake of ten righteous people (Basically Lot and his fam!), so because of the Lord’s favor on Abraham’s life the Lord “…remembered Abraham” (Genesis 19:29).
Lastly, our heavenly Father knows exactly what is best for us even when we think we know what is best for ourselves. After all, he created us, knows us better than we know ourselves and he is a PERFECT FATHER. Think of it this way, all those TV shows where the Dad was like the ideal father, like Carl on Family Matters, the father on Full House (can’t think of his name), Bill Cosby on the Cosby Show. Our Heavenly Father is MORE PERFECT AND GREATER than all of those TV show fathers put together. Jeremiah 1:5 says, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew[a] you, before you were born I set you apart…” So, trust that our heavenly Father has you in his hands, and that the plan that he has for your life is exceedingly and abundantly greater than the plan that you can imagine or think of –“Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us”, Ephesians 3:20.
