Saturday Sacrifice: Dare to be a Disciple

What does it mean to be a Christian or a disciple of Christ?... Is a
Christian a disciple of Christ?...Is a disciple of Christ a Christian?... Many
people, and myself included refer to themselves as Christians. However,
do we really know what that means?

In Luke, Jesus says you cannot be my disciple

(1)  If you do not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sister

*If you love your family more than me (Jesus)
(2) If you do not carry their cross and come after me

*If you don’t use the talents and abilities I

given you to serve me (Jesus)

(3) If you do not give up everything you have

*If everything you have is more important than

me (Jesus)

According to the bible dictionary a disciple of Christ is one who believes his (Jesus Christ) doctrine, “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him” (Hebrews 11:6), rests on his sacrifice, relies on the love of Jesus Christ for them which was demonstrated through his death, burial, and resurrection, imbibes (receives) his spirit, “He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receives…”(Luke 7:38-39), and imitates his example, they reflect Jesus Christ in every aspect of their life.

People make being a Christian or a disciple of Christ seem complicated,
like it’s a bunch of rules comprised of Do’s and Don’ts. It’s not. We
just have to make the choice whether we want to live for God or live
for ourselves. So what is your choice?

  1. This is deep. I like how you pointed out that it should be seen in every aspect of our lives. It's a lifestyle and not just a Sunday thing.
