Ok, I don’t know if you know this but David in the bible
(the guy who killed Goliath) was the best psalmist or musician of his time and
the Book of Psalms is mostly comprised of David’s love songs to God. So, if you
could please SING these verses out loud or to yourself (so you won’t scare the
person next to you) it would be greatly appreciated!!!
“7But as for me, I will come into thy house in
the multitude of thy mercy: and in thy fear will I worship
toward thy holy temple.8 Lead me, O Lord, in thy righteousness
because of mine enemies; make thy way straight before my face… 11
But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for
joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be
joyful in thee.12For thou, Lord, wilt bless the righteous; with
favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.”
To me, these verses stood out the most. In a way, David’s
song of worship
was describing the Woman'sact of worship for Jesus. In Luke, it says
that the woman a sinner knew that Jesus was in the Pharisees house. It goes on to
say that she stood behind Jesus and began to wash his feet with her tears,
wiped them with her hair, kissed them, and anointed them with perfume.
The mercy
on this woman was truly great. First of all she was an uninvited sinner woman,
and she was touching Jesus! That was a huge mistake! Never the less, she
continued to worship (You go Girl!). Now, the Pharisees of course
repeated information to Jesus that he already knew about the woman…that she was
a sinner and all. But, Jesus in all of his love and mercy defended the woman to the Pharisees. Jesus knew everything about her, down to the last dirty detail
but he still loved her and forgave her.
I believe this woman knew
Jesus loved
her, because in Luke chapter 7 verse 50 it reads, “And he said to the woman,
Thy faith
hath saved thee; go in peace”. I believe she had faith that her ALL
her sins were forgiven even before she came to the Pharisees house. You can’t
just show up uninvited at the White House, and expect to get an audience with
the president. That’s abnormal!!
So, obviously the woman was on another level. Her act of worship for Jesus (crying, kissing,
wiping, anointing) was a byproduct of Jesus’ great love and mercy
on her life. Because of that great love and mercy, the woman had to do
something outrageous. Jesus did the exact thing for us. He has forgiven us of
every sin, past, present, and future through the shedding of his blood, and has
forgotten them so that we can live with him forever. So, because of his great love
and mercy
on our lives, we should be giving our Lord back all the worship he deserves. So what is holding you back??

Ever wonder where CeCe Winans got the idea for this song from? Luke 7:18-50
That was really good! We have to learn how to step out and do something abnormal for God
ReplyDeleteEncouraging word to never reach a satisfied or content state in God. His love and mercy is my hope.
ReplyDeleteExcellent and encouraging message! I love God's everlasting mercy. I admire the woman's act of worship!
ReplyDeleteThank God for His tender and loving mercy. I cannot live without Him. Thank you Hannah for sharing that beautiful and classic song as well. It so easy to want from the Lord, but what will I give is a greater desire.
ReplyDeleteWhat an encouraging post, Hannah. This is one of my favorite passages. You never know by looking at someone how expensive their praise and worship is.
ReplyDeleteIn addition, I never thought about this statement, "I believe she had faith that her ALL her sins were forgiven even before she came to the Pharisees house. You can’t just show up uninvited at the White House, and expect to get an audience with the president. That’s abnormal!!" Very profound insite! Fabulous blog!!
